Ingredient focus: Monoi Oil
Monoi Oil – have you heard about it yet? This wonder-ingredient is the latest buzzword that’s got beauty editors and bloggers taking note. A key ingredient in our Self Tan Dry Oil SPF 50, Monoi Oil is packed full of natural goodness to nourish and protect your skin. Read on to find out more.
What is it?
Dubbed coconut oil’s sexier cousin by the Huffington Post, Monoi oil is a skincare essential for soft, smooth, conditioned skin.
The Tahitian oil is a beautiful combination of pure extra virgin coconut and the natural essence of Tiare flower.
Where is it from?
Monoi oil hails from Tahiti and natives there have used Monoi oil for centuries. Tahiti is the only place the oil is produced and the French Polynesians hold it in high esteem thanks to its softening and strengthening properties which work for skin and hair in equal measure.
Monoi Oil is most commonly used by locals as a body lotion, anti-inflammatory, stretch mark and scar minimizer.
How will it benefit me?
Monoi oil helps protect skin against external elements as well as offering instant and lasting hydration. It works as a great after-sun oil, soothing and calming burnt or inflamed skin.
The coconut oil base is rich in essential fatty acids, vitamin E and free radical-fighting antioxidants. This makes it incredibly hydrating and nourishing to skin. Methyl salicylate, found in the Tiare flower extract, offers anti-inflammatory benefits.
Research from the nonprofit Monoi Institute indicates that 28 days of Monoi use bolsters skin elasticity by about 27 percent. It also performed better as a moisturizer than jojoba, shea butter and Vaseline oils.
